Discovering OMED Oil: A Unique Experience at Spain’s Best Olive Mill
One of the things I do love about living in Spain is the opportunity to explore places full of history, tradition, and, of course, flavor! This past weekend, our family was invited to visit OMED Oil, one of the most prestigious olive mills in Spain, located in the beautiful province of Granada. And let me tell you, what an amazing experience it was!

It was a very chilly morning, but from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth, making us feel right at home. For a family still adjusting to life in Spain, these little details mean the world. The kids were thrilled to run among the olive trees while we soaked in all the magic of this place.

A Walk Through Olive Groves and Nature
We started the visit with a tour of the olive groves, a landscape straight out of a postcard. We learned all about olive cultivation and how soil and climate play a crucial role in producing the highest quality extra virgin olive oil. And of course, as a Mami, I was already imagining how incredible it would be to have a family picnic among those dreamy fields. We got a glimpse of it with their very culturally invigorating breakfast spread in the olive groves. We got to try the olive oil and some of the delicious traditional breakfast items so peculiar to the South of Spain that and where Olive Oil play a lead role.

The Olive Mill of the Future
Next, we stepped inside the olive mill itself, an intelligent building that combines cutting-edge technology with sustainability. They explained how their circular production process maximizes every resource while ensuring an eco-friendly and responsible approach. As a Mami,g8y n I I love teaching my kids the importance of taking care of our planet, and this was a perfect example of how innovation and tradition can go hand in hand.

A Feast for the Senses
After the tour, it was time for the best part: the olive oil and vinegar tasting! We sampled their different varieties and discovered how each oil has a distinct flavor profile depending on the harvest and type of olive. I have to admit, I had never done a vinegar nor olive oil tasting before, and I was surprised by how delicious and complex these products can be! All of this was paired with a spectacular spread and lunch featuring local products, making the experience even more unforgettable. We even got to see how a paella is made using of course the Omed extra virgin olive oil. I must admit, I am not a big fan of paellas, however, this one was super flavorful and was delightedly surprised by how much I really enjoyed it! They did explain how sometimes olive oil is overlooked when cooking and this comes at the expense of food not being as tasty. Sometimes high-end restaurants spend so much on making sure that their products of the highest quality but then cut corners with something so important for the quality and taste like olive oil is. I must admit, everything tastes much better with some high quality olive oil, paired with some good wine too!

An Experience We Want to Repeat
We left wanting more, especially since our morning plans to take a plane tour over Granada hat OMED offers was cancelled due to the overcast weather. So now we have the perfect excuse to come back!

If you’re in Andalusia or planning a trip to Spain, I highly recommend this experience. It’s a wonderful way to learn about extra virgin olive oil, enjoy nature, and, of course, taste some spectacular products.
Thank you to OMED Oil and their entire team for making us feel so welcome. Until our next adventure!
