The Magic of a Mexican Posada in Spain

Growing up, one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season was traveling to Mexico with my parents to celebrate Las Posadas. These beautiful nine days of celebration, steeped in faith, tradition, and community, are a cornerstone of Mexican holiday festivities. From reenacting Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter to the vibrant piñatas and delicious ponche, Posadas are more than just a tradition—they’re a way of connecting generations through shared culture and joy.

This year, I was thrilled to find a little slice of home right here in Spain! The Museo Precolombino in Benalmádena Pueblo hosted a stunning Posada event, and I couldn’t be happier that my children got to experience it. Seeing them sing villancicos, light candles, and break a colorful piñata brought back so many memories of my own childhood. It was a moment of pure joy to share this tradition with them and to see how they embraced it with wide eyes and open hearts.

The event was beautifully organized, with every detail reflecting the essence of Posadas. From the traditional songs to the smell of tamales filling the air, it felt like being transported back to Mexico for an evening. The community came together in such a heartfelt way, and the smiles on everyone’s faces—young and old—were priceless.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who worked hard to bring this celebration to life. You gave us all a precious gift: the opportunity to celebrate our roots, even far from home.

As a mom, sharing these traditions with my children is so important to me. It’s a way to keep our culture alive, to remind them where they come from, and to show them the beauty of connecting with others through shared experiences.

To everyone who joined us at the Posada, thank you for making it such a special night. And to those who celebrate Posadas around the world, may this season bring you warmth, joy, and the magic of tradition.

¡Que viva México y Feliz Navidad! 🎄✨
