In the spirit of Halloween, today’s post will be about the basics on carving a Jack-O’-Lantern. Because sometimes, you think you know how to do something so simple as carving a Jack-O’-Lantern and then when you are a glass of wine in and ready to carve, you realize you don’t really know what’s first carving or gutting the pumpkin!?

This is for beginners, the basics.

Also, it’s a fun tradition to start with your little ones!

Use a marker to outline your design. Easiest: Eyes, mouth, nose.

To make life easier, get a pumpkin-carving set, you will have all the tools you need! Find an appropriate knife. When carving, draw the knife back and forth as if you’re sawing through a tree trunk.

Now, first start off by cutting a lid!!! Measure a circle with about a 2-inch (5cm) radius from the stem. You’ll cut around this circle to make the lid.

After you’ve removed the lid from the pumpkin, cut a slice off the underside to remove excess filling and flatten the bottom.

Remove the filling from the pumpkin. Use a large spoon or your hands to pull all of the strands and seeds from the inside of your pumpkin. Scrape it as clean as you can, so that more light shines through your jack-o’-lantern.

You can save and toast the pumpkin seeds for a treat. Disentangle them from the stringy filling and rinse them off, then toss them with olive oil and salt and scatter on a cookie sheet. Toast for about 25 minutes at 400ºF (200ºC).
You can also plant the seeds next spring to grow your own pumpkins!

Start carving your design. Use a gentle back and forth motion to cut into the pumpkin, and take your time. Discard cut-out pieces as you remove them. Keep following your pattern until you’ve carved out the entire design.

Choose a light source for your jack-o’-lantern, traditionally, they  were lit with candlesticks or tea lights, but flashlights and flickering LEDs are popular modern options.

And done! Display with pride your beginner’s jack-o’-lantern! Maybe next year you can graduate to more complicated carvings!

En el espíritu de Halloween, el post de hoy va a ser acerca de los fundamentos de la talla de un Jack-o’-lantern. Porque a veces, usted cree que sabe cómo hacer algo tan simple como una talla de Jack-o’-lantern y luego, cuando usted lleva una copa de vino y está listo para tallar, se da cuenta que no se sabe muy bien cual es el primer paso tallar o vaciar ¿¡la calabaza!?

Esto es para principiantes, los conceptos básicos.

Además, es una divertida tradición para empezar con los más bebés!

Use un marcador para delinear su diseño. Más fáciles: Los ojos, la boca, la nariz.

Para hacer la vida más fácil, compre un conjunto de calabaza-talla, tendrá todas las herramientas que necesita! Encuentre un cuchillo apropiado. Cuando la talla, dibuje el cuchillo de un lado a otro como si estuviera serrando un tronco de árbol.

Ahora, empezar con lo primero, cortar una tapa!!! Medida de un círculo con un radio de aproximadamente 2 pulgadas (5 cm) del vástago. Vas a cortar alrededor de este círculo para hacer la tapa.
Después de que haya quitado la tapa de la calabaza, cortar un trozo de la parte inferior para eliminar el exceso de llenado y aplanar la parte inferior.

Retire el relleno de la calabaza. Use una cuchara grande o las manos para tirar de todos los hilos y semillas desde el interior de la calabaza. Raspe lo más limpio posible, de modo que más luz brilla a través de su jack-o’-lantern.

Puede guardar y tostar las semillas de calabaza! Separarlos desde el relleno fibroso y enjuague, luego un poco de aceite de oliva y sal y se dispersan en una bandeja de horno. Tostar durante unos 25 minutos a 400ºF (200ºC).
También puede sembrar las semillas en la próxima primavera y cultivar su propia calabazas!

Iniciar la talla de su diseño. Utilice un movimiento suave movimiento de vaivén para cortar en la calabaza, y tome su tiempo. Descartar piezas de conexión y desconexión al quitarlos. Mantener siguiendo su patrón hasta que se ha labrado todo el diseño.

Elija una fuente de luz para su jack-o’-lantern, tradicionalmente, fueron iluminadas con candelabros o velas de té, pero linternas y LEDs parpadeantes son opciones populares modernas.
