Prawn cocktail with pink sauce: a Spanish Recipe

This delicious Spanish recipe is a nice mix of my mother-in-law’s recipe she shared with me and my alterations to make it easier and with products easily found at your local Ralphs.

Spanish appetizer spread for special occassions.
Spanish Appetizers

Prawn Cocktail with pink sauce is a very typical appetizer in the south of Spain, Malaga in particular. It is generally served for Christmas Eve Dinner, New Year’s Eve Dinner and for Three Kings Day. I think this is a great appetizer for Valentines Day too because of the pretty pink sauce! For the sake of this easy and fast recipe, I have replaced the steps of making the mayonnaise from scratch to just using the grocery bought one. I also replaced the spicy Spanish sauce with a readily available one at your local Ralphs.

Ingredients

The following ingredients were all purchased at my local Ralphs*:

For the Pink Sauce:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Spicy sauce (like Valentina or Tapatio)
  • Brandy
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

For the cocktail:

– Cooked, deveined, tail-off shrimp
– Lettuce head chopped
– Imitation crab chopped
– 1 can pineapple chunks

Steps

For the sauce:

  • In a small bowl, Mix the Mayonnaise, Ketchup, hot sauce and brandy, set aside. It should look light pink and creamy.

For the cocktail:

  • In a large bowl, Mix cooked shrimp with chopped lettuce, chopped imitation crab and pineapple chunks.
  • Mix in the sauce.
  • Chill and serve.

Enjoy!
