If you are in LA-county, then you know we are back to being quarantined. Although not as restrictive due to the rising cases of COVID-19. Sadly I personally am not surprised, it was evident that there was going to be a spike in new cases due to the fact that not everyone follows the “requests” from our Mayor to wear masks, not congregate and keep 6ft apart if you must go out for essentials. I understand the frustration of wanting to get back to “normal” but we will not get there if people continue to be selfish putting us vulnerable individuals in danger. In the meantime, our household has maintained a strict quarantine because of my weakened immune system and the fact that I am pregnant. We hope you and your family are also staying safe, even if you are not at high risk, those around you may be, even if it doesn’t seem like they are.

For a 4-year old, quarantine has been very difficult, we begun around March 15 and pulled Stacy out of Pre-School. She really missed her friends and eventually her Pre-school facilitated a couple of zoom calls for the children to interact (in addition to the online suggested curriculum). Stacy loved seeing her classmates and was so excited with anticipation waiting for her zoom parties. We also Face-time with her cousins from Mexico and Northern Cali and the ones she was used to seeing here daily. She loves even just watching them play and show and tell about their recent creations and toys. There are those days when she is notoriously sad, she asks how long will the virus last and has begun the “I’m bored” stage, a bit too early in my opinion, but understandably. We try to bring her outdoors but its difficult to do so with me so pregnant, working full time and my husband also working full time. We open the garage and have her play, use chalk, water, bicycle, motorized jeep, anything to bring some joy. Her daddy of course is her favorite toy, they play, she loves that time spent with daddy. We also decided to get her an indoor trampoline, after seeing her turn the living room into an “Evel Knievel” course, jumping from the couches onto her pillow-made ramps and using her indoor scooter to go over her ramps (made out of the chalk board and white boards). She gets creative and it gets a little dangerous sometimes. But we try to encourage her creativity making her aware of “Safety first” as much as possible.

A quick Amazon search, and a couple of days later, she has her indoor trampoline that really tires her out, ready for nap time! She likes watching her “Dance class” videos and practice the moves on the trampoline. She also likes to do stunts and pretend to fly. Of course now, all I hear is “Mami, mami, look what i can do, look what i can dooooo!” I like hearing her scream that with excitement in place of “I’m boreeeeed!”. I’m sure its only a matter of time until we need to figure out another thing to keep her busy and add to our bag of tricks, but for now, this work-from home rotation works.
