Another week of staying home for us all, I hope you are doing your part and making sure you stay home as much as you can. For those that must continue to go to work, thank you so much for your services and for risking your life. Let’s pray that people understand the severity of this and stay home so that we soon may continue to our regular life programing.
During this crisis, I have reached out to a Financial Services Advisor who is very active in her Latino community, she likes to help by providing free Financial Literacy seminars in both Spanish and English and she joined us for a Facebook Live this past Tuesday to share some of her knowledge and share tips during these really difficult times. The most important thing to remember during a crisis:
Always use reliable sources & avoid rumors from social media.
Tips during this crisis:
- Let’s buy what we need for 2 weeks. It is not necessary to keep so much food as we have to be aware that some families do not have in their budgets to be able to buy food in bulk or save a lot of food in advance and it is important to think about those people who need to buy what is necessary for the week.
- The food will not decay and the transportation of food will not be lacking.
- Transportation companies are working day and night to be able to bring food to supermarkets, but at the same time we have to be aware that buying more prevents others from buying while more food is on the way.
- Stay home, limit visits.
- Limit going out as there is not much activity in the community. It is better to be at home only those who live there since we do not know if the visitors or we are infected.
- We must remember that the symptoms of the virus do not appear until 1 or 2 weeks later and it is better to prevent ourselves and protect our family and community.
- Implement steps to prevent getting sick.
- Keep medicine available.
- Wash our hands frequently
- Keep our house clean.
- Avoid touching our faces, eyes, nose and mouth.
- It is not necessary to wear masks so far it is not a rule implemented by the government only to people who if they are sick or care for someone sick.
- Maintain communication with our family and close friends by making a call by sending a message or making video calls. Technology is advancing and there are many free applications that help us keep in touch.
- Planning how we are going to do for the care of our children, many people have the opportunity to work at home and unfortunately others do not.
- Let’s try to talk to our employees. During these situations we are having a lot of help and the people are being more kind.
- The community is helping us, the government is supporting us, the schools are providing free food for our children.
- Some places are providing low-cost childcare and some are free for those who have to work outside the home.
- Keep us informed with news from our city.
- Have an emergency list of our relatives, neighbors, teachers, the local health department and any other resources provided by our respective cities.
- Some internet companies are supporting communities and giving free internet.
- School districts are also providing electronic equipment to help our children have the necessary resources to continue studying from home. Check with your respective district if this has also been implemented.
Above all, the most fundamental thing is to stay calm, not stress. The city and the government are supporting us and implementing rules so that we have our necessary utilities. Our roof, water and electricity. Let’s try to take this time to live with our family. These are difficult times and keeping calm is very important. We are all united as family, community, brotherhood and we are going to be able to get ahead.

Ceiling – Savings
It is very important to educate ourselves and know how to save. How compound interest works, how to know how to invest. Prepare for retirement, save for our children’s college. Create an emergency fund.
Statistics show that 8 out of 10 workers live from salary to salary and more than 60% do not have even $ 1,000 in savings in case of an emergency.
Structure – Debt Elimination
Know how to get out of debt, how to use our credit cards correctly. Find resources that can help us pay off our mortgage faster and our loans faster.
Foundation – protection (home, car, lives and health)
The foundation is the most important foundation in our entire financial house as in our homes. If we have a solid foundation, our walls and roof will not fall and it is still the same in financial terms. It is important to protect our income, protect our family in case something happens to us prematurely.
It is also important to know that we do not need to pay much to protect ourselves and have life insurance. We all insure our homes, cars, and our phones, but few of us think about protecting our income and our lives. There are resources that also provide help to our immigrant families by being able to cover our family at a low cost. Many people have protection at work but unfortunately that only protects in case something happens at work and most have many exclusions. It is important to educate ourselves on the resources that help the consumer and protect us and to know the options that we have available. It is sad to see that people have to wash cars, make meals or subscribe to “go fund me” and cause more stress to our families.
The foundation is the most important part of our financial house since it protects us and helps us to keep the house standing if something happens to us prematurely.

Una semana más de estar en casa para todos nosotros, espero que esté haciendo su parte y asegurándose de quedarse en casa tanto como pueda. Para aquellos que deben continuar trabajando, muchas gracias por sus servicios y por arriesgar su vida. Oremos para que las personas entiendan la gravedad de esto y se queden en casa para que pronto podamos continuar con nuestra programación de vida regular.
Durante esta crisis, me puse en contacto con un asesor de servicios financieros que es muy activo en su comunidad latina, a ella le gusta ayudar ofreciendo seminarios gratuitos de educación financiera en español e inglés y se unió a nosotros en Facebook Live el martes pasado para compartir algunos de sus conocimientos y compartir consejos durante estos tiempos realmente difíciles. ¡Mira su biografía de mi blog anterior AQUÍ!
El consejo mas importante para recordar durante una crisis:
Siempre acude a recursos confiables y evita los rumores de las redes sociales.
Consejos durante esta crisis:
- Compremos lo que necesitamos por 2 semanas. No es necesario mantener tanta comida ya que tenemos que estar conscientes que algunas familias no tienen en sus presupuestos el poder comprar alimentos en mayoreo o guardar mucha comida en antemano y es importante pensar en esas personas que necesitan comprar lo necesario de la semana.
- La alimentación no va a decaer y La transportación de comida no va a faltar.
- Las compañías de transportación están trabájando día y noche en poder llevar la comida a los supermercados pero a la vez tenemos que estar conscientes que el comprar de más evita que los demás puedan compra mientras más comida vienen camino.
- Quedarnos en casa, limitar las visitas.
- Limitar salir ya que no hay mucha actividad en la comunidad. Es mejor estar en casa solo los que viven ahí ya que no sabemos si las visitas o nosotros estemos infectados.
- Hay que recordar que los síntomas del virus no aparenten hasta 1 o 2 semanas después y es mejor prevenirnos y proteger a nuestra familia y comunidad.
- Implementar pasos para prevenir enfermarnos.
- Mantener medicina disponible.
- Lavarnos las manos frecuentemente
- Mantener nuestra casa limpia.
- Evadir tocarnos la cara, los ojos nariz y boca.
- No es necesario usar mascarillas hasta el momento no es una regla implementada por el gobierno solamente a la gente que si esta enferma o cuidan de alguien enfermo.
- Mantener comunicación con nuestra familia y amigos cercanos haciendo una llamada mandando un mensaje o hacer llamadas de video. La tecnología está avanzando y hay muchas aplicaciones gratis que nos ayudan a mantenernos en contacto.
- Planear como vamos a hacer para el cuidado de nuestro ninos, muchas personas tienen la oportunidad de trabajar en casa y desafortunadamente otras no.
- Tratemos de hablar con nuestros empleados. Durante estas situaciones estamos teniendo mucha ayuda y las personas están siendo más amables.
- La comunidad nos está ayudando, el gobierno nos está apoyando, las escuelas están proporcionando alimentación gratis parar nuestros hijos.
- Algunos lugares están proporcionando el cuidado de los niños a bajos costos y algunos gratuitos para los que tienen que trabajando fuera de casa.
- Mantenernos informados con las noticias de nuestra ciudad.
- Ten una lista de emergencia de nuestros familiares, vecinos, maestros, el departamento de salud local y cualquier otro recurso proveído por nuestras respectivas ciudades.
- Algunas compañías de internet están apoyando a las comunidades y dando internet gratis.
- Districtos escolares también están proporcionando equipos electrónicos para ayudarnos a que nuestros hijos tengan los recursos necesarios para seguir estudiando desde casa. Verifiquen con su respectivo distrito si esto a sido también implementado.
Sobre todo lo más primordial es mantener la calma, no estresarnos. La ciudad y el gobierno nos está apoyando y enplementando reglas para que tengamos nuestras utilidades necesarias Nuestro techo, agua y luz. Tratemos de tomar este tiempo de convivir con nuestra familia estos son momentos difíciles y mantener la calma es muy importante. Todos estamos unidos como familia, comunidad, hermandad y vamos a poder salir adelante.

Techo – Los Ahorros
Es muy importante educarnos y saber cómo ahorrar. Como funciona el interés compuesto, como saber invertir. Prepararse para la jubilación, ahorrar para la universidad de nuestros hijos. Crear un fondo de emergencia.
Estadísticas muestran que 8 de 10 trabajadores viven de sueldo en sueldo y más del 60% no tienen ni $1,000 en ahorrados en caso de una emergencia.
Estructura – Eliminación de deudas
Saber como salir de deudas, como utilizar nuestras tarjetas de crédito correctamente. Buscar recursos que nos puedan ayudar a pagar nuestra hipoteca más rápido y nuestros préstamos más rápidos.
Fundación – protección ( casa, auto, vidas y salud)
La fundación es la base más importante de toda nuestra casa financiera como en nuestros hogares si tenemos una base sólida nuestras paredes y techo no caerán e igual se refiere en términos financieros. Es importante proteger nuestros ingresos, proteger nuestra familia en caso de que algo nos suceda prematuramente.
Es importante tambien saber que no necesitamos pagar mucho para protegernos y tener un seguro de vida. Todos aseguramos nuestra casas, carros y nuestros teléfonos pero pocos pensamos en proteger nuestros ingresos y nuestra vidas. Hay recursos que también proveen ayuda a nuestras familias inmigrantes al poder cubrir nuestra familia a un bajo costo. Muchas personas tienen protection en el trabajo pero desafortunadamente eso solo protege en caso que algo suceda en el trabajo y la mayoría tienen muchas exclusiones. Es importante educarnos en los recursos que ayudan al consumidor y nos protegen y saber las opciones que tenemos disponibles. Es triste ver que personas tienen que lavar carros, hacer comidas o subscribirse a “go fund me” y causar mas estrés a nuestras familias.
La fundación es la parte más importante de nuestra casa financiera ya que nos protege y nos ayuda a mantener la casa en pie si nos llega a ocurrir algo prematuramente.
