We had an amazing guest at our Facebook Live, the CEO and Founder, Pretty Mama Breastfeeding, LLC Liz Chang who talked to us about The power of breastfeeding. Liz Chang is Spanish-speaking, holds two degrees, Network Communication Management, a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Technology, a certification as a Breastfeeding Counselor from the Nonprofit Academy of Breastfeeding Policy and Practice. Liz is a candidate for the 2020 International Certified Breastfeeding Consultant. Liz offers bilingual Spanish breastfeeding advice to women throughout Greater Philadelphia and New Jersey. Tips for breastfeeding your baby
- Have faith in your power, Mami. If you have the courage to get ahead with your baby, you have a lot of courage and you can, do not give up. Mentally convince yourself that you will and seek get advice and prepare.
- Preparation is paramount. Every Mami, especially a first-time Mami, has lots of questions and curiosity and advice is needed before and during breastfeeding. Get informed and connect with groups or consultancies whether they are free or paid to ensure that you succeed.
- Every Mami can breastfeed, there are a few exceptions. For example, a Mami who has breast cancer or other very serious diseases that prevent her from breastfeeding.
- Maternal hormones are what produce milk while you are pregnant in order to breastfeed, so if you are pregnant, you can surely breastfeed.
- It may be that the baby itself is the one that cannot breastfeed due to the way in which his palate is developed and there are ways to help your baby to nurse. It is very important to have advice and a consultant to help you. A specialist baby dentist can help in these special cases.
- The majority of Mamis who cannot breastfeed, it is surely for not having had the correct advice since there are very few reasons why a Mami cannot truly breastfeed.
- Many times, wanting is power and your power of wanting is more powerful and will help you have that perseverance of not giving up, if it is what you really want for you and your baby.
- You don’t have to wait long with a newborn baby if you can’t breastfeed but don’t give up that fast either. A newborn baby doesn’t need a lot of milk to breastfeed, and you Mami, you have it there for your baby. Sometimes you need to get that guide in order to learn. If a few days have passed and you still cannot, go immediately to the pediatrician and ask for help, the pediatricians have contacts so you can get counseling.
Unfortunately in the USA, there is not much help in hospitals at the time of giving birth regarding breastfeeding. The staff is very limited and many times Mamis do not receive information and advice. You have to know this and be prepared to seek help outside the hospital yourself, either with your baby’s pediatrician, in your community or through people like Liz, who are dedicated to advising on breastfeeding.

Consejos para amamantar a tu bebé
- Ten fe en tu poder, mami. Si tiene el coraje de salir adelante con su bebé, tiene mucho coraje y puede, no se rinda. Convence mentalmente de que lo harás y recibirás consejos y te prepararás.
- La preparación es primordial. Cada Mami, especialmente una Mami primeriza, tiene muchas preguntas y se necesita curiosidad y consejos antes y durante la lactancia. Infórmese y conéctese con grupos o consultores, ya sean gratuitos o de pago, para garantizar que tenga éxito.
- Toda Mami puede amamantar, la que no, sería una Mami que tiene cáncer de seno u otras enfermedades muy graves que le impiden amamantar.
- Las hormonas maternas son las que producen la leche durante el embarazo para amamantar, por lo que si está embarazada, seguramente puede amamantar.
- Puede ser que el bebé en sí sea el que no puede amamantar debido a la forma en que se desarrolla su paladar y hay formas de ayudar a su bebé a amamantar. Es muy importante contar con asesoramiento y un consultor para ayudarlo. Un dentista especializado en bebés puede ayudar en estos casos especiales.
- La mayoría de las Mami que no pueden amamantar, seguramente es por no haber tenido el consejo correcto, ya que hay muy pocas razones por las cuales una Mami no puede amamantar realmente.
- Muchas veces, querer es poder y tu poder de querer es más poderoso y te ayudará a tener esa perseverancia de no rendirte, si es lo que realmente quieres para ti y tu bebé.
- No tiene que esperar mucho con un bebé recién nacido si no puedes amamantar, pero tampoco se rinda tan rápido. Un bebé recién nacido no necesita mucha leche para amamantar, y tu Mami, lo tienes allí para tu bebé. A veces necesitas obtener esa guía para aprender. Si han pasado algunos días y aún no puede, vaya inmediatamente al pediatra y solicite ayuda, los pediatras tienen contactos para que pueda obtener asesoramiento.
Desafortunadamente en los Estados Unidos, no hay mucha ayuda en los hospitales al momento de dar a luz con respecto a la lactancia materna. El personal es muy limitado y muchas veces las madres no reciben información ni consejos. Debes saber esto y estar preparada para buscar ayuda fuera del hospital, ya sea con el pediatra de tu bebé, en tu comunidad o por medio de personas como Liz, que se dedican a aconsejar sobre la lactancia materna.
