Ear Piercing Baby Girl / Perforar los oidos de su Niña

Ear Piercing Baby Girl / Perforar los oidos de su Niña

Though I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up in a predominantly Latino community and thus, with a lot of the cultural traditions. One of those traditions was that a baby girl gets her ears pierced pretty much right after birth and I just assumed it was true for all baby girls, not just Latinas. Something that never dawned on me until after I took my 4 month old to visit some American friends and I mentioned I was waiting a couple of months to get her ears pierced (as to excuse why she didn’t have them pierced already) they were a bit shocked and said I should just wait until she turns 16 or so and have her earn it and make it a day out of it. I then realized that it wasn’t the norm to have baby girls ears pierced before they turn 9 months, at least not in America.

Flight with My 15 Month Baby / Mi vuelo con mi Bebé de 15 Messes

Flight with My 15 Month Baby / Mi vuelo con mi Bebé de 15 Messes

Now that I have a walker, it’s difficult to keep her still. We traveled to another country recently and preparing took some time.
We started off by ordering her a passport, we set an appointment. So Mamis, take notes, when you’re going through the process for the first time you will need your child’s original birth certificate and both parents have to be present to sign the paperwork. It takes about 6 weeks to receive it.

Once we got to the airport it was difficult, we had four pieces of luggage to pull, a stroller to push and keeping everything that was needed (passports/diaper bag) tidy and handy was a real challenge. Once we checked in our luggage (30mins after arrival) my husband was back to helping me out with the baby. Our flight was delayed, beside my daughter wanting to walk around the whole waiting room for that extra hour, it all went well. My daughter loves saying hi to the crowds. We loaded the plane at about 12am and as soon as the plane took off it was like a car ride, my daughter slept the whole four hour flight!

Something that really helped was the pillow I carried, it helped her sleep the entire time and it relieved pressure from my arm too. We arrived safe and and had an awesome time, but on the way back she threw up I don’t know if it was because I let her look out the window during take off or maybe she caught a virus, but when I took her to her doctor the next morning, she was doing fine! Somethings are just unexplainable sometimes.
